The photo scanning service we offer includes …
Loose photos are photos in packs and bundles. Anything on a board or mounted does not qualify as a loose photo and needs to be priced under flatbed scanning. Anything in a photo album, whether glued or in packets isn’t covered here unless all the photos are removed and are clean loose photos.
35 mm Mounted Slides
When scanning slides, we try our best to ensure the scans are rotated the right way and are also flipped the right way as well. Many of the slides we receive are old and in poor condition so our advice is to have them scanned and then if required use our photo enhancement service on individual images that mean a lot to you. The more slides you have done, the lower our unit price. We scan everything at 2400 dpi on the best slide scanners available.
Medium format or irregular unmounted slides
Scanning medium format film is a very time-consuming process and as such we don’t offer a sliding scale of pricing as we do with photos. We try our best to ensure the scans are rotated the right way and are also flipped the right way as well. Many of the slides / negatives we receive are old and in poor condition so our advice is to have them scanned and then if required use our photo enhancement service (or even restoration) on individual images that mean a lot to you. If you have over 200 medium format negatives we will be able to offer a discount subject to “how busy we are”. Drop us an email or call the office to find out more..
We are often asked whether it is better to scan negatives over photos. The answer is definitley negatives. They wont have faded. If you have the original photos or “prints” we can process the scanning much faster and offer lower pricing. We use superb negative scanners but the process is much slower and the price is therefore higher than prints. If you have lost the prints and only have the negatives or want the best possible quality, then scanning negs is the best option and we will provide great digital images back.
Photo Album Scanning
The price we charge is for each page of your photo album – each side is a separate page. Therefore if you had an album with 30 pages (60 sides) you would add 60 into the quantity box when pricing this up. We will scan each of your photo album pages so photos don’t need to be removed or torn from the album. We use a high-end art scanner that can scan upto A2 in size. The quality is amazing !
So, by default you get a scan of the page with all of the photos on it. In addition there is the option for cropping the photos on the page as additional separate images. This means you get the album page AND the additional photo images, if you select cropping as an option.
Our standard photo scanning is for loose photos. For mounted photos or any fragile photographs that won’t pass through our feeder scanners we have to use flat bed scanners and this process is much slower.
